ADAPTIVE REUSE
For this project, IA transformed a concrete warehouse on LinkedIn’s Carpinteria campus—originally intended only as a storage facility—into a state-of-the-art video production suite. To adapt the warehouse into a state-of-the-art studio, IA designed a series of programmatic interventions that support LinkedIn’s production process. In collaboration with architect-of-record HOK, IA acted as the recording studio consultant and also retrofitted the building to optimize its acoustic performance and coordinated substantial improvements to its structural and mechanical systems.
PROGRAMMING A VIDEO PRODUCTION CAMPUS
The suite includes six sound stages, six green rooms, three editing and review facilities, staff workstations, and lounges arranged in an efficient plan that creates convenient program adjacencies and improves studio operations. To create professional environments that could host talent and VIP guests within the warehouse, the green rooms, makeup rooms, wardrobe areas, and conference spaces all feature a high degree of finish.
HIGH PERFORMANCE
To ensure ideal lighting conditions in the sound stages, IA maximized the height of the lighting grid, carefully coordinating architectural, structural, and mechanical plans with the full consultant team. All sound stages achieved NC-20 noise criteria for HVAC and NC-25 for sound isolation.
CREATING A COMPREHENSIVE STUDIO ENVIRONMENT
Working closely with LinkedIn, IA developed a comprehensive program that addressed all of LinkedIn’s production needs. The design arrays a full suite of studio spaces,—including sound stages, green rooms, and editing and review facilities—in a highly efficient plan, transforming what was an unused warehouse into an innovative production facility.
